Update: Boston Spa and Wetherby Secondary Schools

Boston Spa School has applied to the regional schools commissioner to become an academy as part of the Gorse Multi Academy Trust. If Boston Spa were to become an academy in the near future it could jeopardise the future of Wetherby High School as pupil numbers in Wetherby and Boston Spa indicate that only one school is sustainable in the longer term. In addition Gorse Multi Academy Trust and Boston Spa included as part of their proposal to also academise Wetherby High School and close it.

In light of this Leeds City Council were asked by the regional schools commissioner to submit a business case outlining the situation in the area and suggesting the most appropriate way of resolving the issue. We have also asked the regional schools commissioner to delay any decision on Boston Spa’s academy application whilst the sustainability of places is assessed.

The regional schools commissioner is considering all the above but has not indicated their view.

Any proposal bought forward by the council would be subject to full public consultation and we are actively working to make sure parents are fully consulted and get chance to feed in their views before any decisions affecting them are taken.

Unfortunately as the schools application round for 2018 has closed we are not able to offer parents the opportunity to change their preferences at this time. However after national offer day on 1 March all parents are able to submit a waiting list request for other schools if they wish to do so.
